Creators in Residence at LAPL

As we say goodbye to 2022, I wanted to share a very cool library project from the year.

The LAPL has a project called the Creators in Residence.

There are two creators in residence from 2022, River Garza and Kwasi Boyd-Bouldin. Both are amazing artists.

I followed Kwasi at NonStndrd on social media during 2022, and watched him visit each library branch to document the architecture in photographs and drawings.

He created zines for each of the six regions of the Los Angeles library system (as a side project!) and created a beautiful book called, Knowledge Based.

I got to attend the showcase in October 2022, and bring my 6 year old daughter Riley and my parents Mark and Gail.  We even got to meet both of the artists and grab copies of Kwasi’s zines and book. And say hi to City Librarian, John Szabo!

I appreciate the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, and their continued support of the arts, by creating this new program.  There are so many ways to enjoy our libraries, and art is one of them!  We are looking forward to 2023 and what the year will bring at our libraries and beyond.

The current exhibit with River and Kwasi’s works will be on view until early 2023. Go visit Central Library before they’re gone!  And if you’re not in Los Angeles, go see what cool things are happening at your own local library. I’m sure you will amazed at what you find.
