A mention in the LA Times Book Club Newsletter

I am so happy to share a section of a lovely write up from Donna Wares, as first published in the LA Times Book Club Newsletter on February 19, 2022. She wrote an update on me and my daughter Riley (who is currently 5 years old and in Kindergarten), including our current favorite books!  Read a section of her writing below. . .and read the rest at the LA Times link (and if you can, also join the LA Times Book Club – they’re meeting this evening)!

The following section is reposted with permission.

Library Journey
What are your daughter’s favorite books?
She seems to have a new favorite with each pile of books we bring home. Currently her favorites are “Poultrygeist” by Eric Geron, “Itty-Bitty Kitty-Corn” by Shannon Hale, “Outside, Inside” by LeUyen Pham, “Born on the Water” by Nikole Hannah-Jones and “Aaron Slater, Illustrator” by Andrea Beaty.

This mention all came about because Donna Wares, the LA Times Book Club editor, saw a tweet from the LA City Librarian, John Szabo– and then reached out to me.

I am so grateful to Donna Wares, the LA Times Book Club Newsletter, John Szabo, and the LAPL for sharing our story. Riley and I look forward to our next adventures. . . as we continue to frequent our local neighborhood libraries.

We also hope to continue inspiring you to visit your local public libraries (or maybe even all of them like we did)!

Riley is loving Kindergarten so far, and is practicing the beginnings of reading and writing with all her heart . . .

Thank you libraries, book clubs (including the Children’s Literature Council of Southern California Book Club which will probably start meeting up again in May 2022) and all lovers of literacy for continuing to inspire so many of us.  My heart is with the librarians in Ukraine this week and maybe one day Riley and I can come visit.
