When the Mayor of L.A. tweets your story

A little over a month ago, on September 3, 2019, the Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, tweeted about our completed journey to all of the LAPL branches!

It’s exciting that the the mayor of the city I love, Los Angeles, took a minute to talk about our little adventure of visiting all 73 L.A. city libraries over the past 2 and a half years. We hope to inspire other Angelinos to visit their local library branches too!

What’s as amazing as a tweet from the mayor or the LAPL itself, is that this little blog has helped bring me to the board of the Children’s Literature Council of Southern California. I’m looking forward to learning from so many librarians and authors! I’m excited and humbled to be part of an organization that promotes greater interest in children’s literature and encourages excellence in the production and selection of books for children. If you’re in the Los Angeles area on November 2, 2019, buy tickets and come join me and many others at the CLCSC Fall Gala.  Become a CLCSC member!

I am so excited about public libraries, that I just submitted a conference proposal about them to the California Speech and Hearing Association, CSHA, for next year. The submission title is: Local Public Libraries Foster Literacy Skills in Speech and Language Therapy.  Here’s hoping I get to present in March 2020! And if not next year, maybe the year after that. Fingers crossed. I do love being a speech language pathologist as much as I love libraries. . .

LAPL is so wonderful. Los Angeles is so lucky to have such amazing libraries, authors, illustrators, librarians and citizens.  Go out and benefit from them! Go check out a book! Go enjoy your community and fellow Angelinos.  Make our city an even better place. Become a member of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles!  Say hi to your local librarian.

Don’t forget that on December 7, 2019 there will the DTLA Mini Maker Faire at Central Library!

Even if you cannot do any of those things, at least go out and renew your library card, or get one for the first time. It’s the best decision you’ll make today.  Can’t make it to an actual library? Here’s the online registration.

Thanks, LAPL. Love, this library patron.
