The best LAPL library branch, revealed.

The best library branch is . . .

the library closest to where you live.

That’s it. That’s the post.

There is no competition for a nearby hub of civilization, which is your local public library branch. If you’re a California resident, you can get a Los Angeles Public Library card.

So, go to your most convenient library branch!

But here’s a bonus for reading this post. . .

Here is a small list of amazing free resources your LAPL library offers to you and everyone. All you need is a library card:

Check out a book or lots of books, and return them to ANY OTHER 72 LAPL library branch or Central Library. There is also music on CDs, movies on DVDs, audiobooks on CDs, travel guides for anywhere in the world. . .  Yep! They make borrower services super easy. Did you get that? You can return your borrows to any other LAPL library branch. It’s amazing. That’s how we were able to do our 73 library visit extravaganza. We’d return books from the previous branch to the next branch . . .

Wait, the branch you visited doesn’t have the book you want? No problem. They will order it out for loan from another branch that has it! And deliver it and put it on hold at the branch closest to you. I know! It’s crazy amazing! (You can even put holds on books without even leaving your house online if you prefer – and – wait for it —— you can renew a loan online as well!)

Listen to audiobooks. Hoopla makes it easy. Right on your phone. I listen to them with the bluetooth in my car. . . it makes driving in traffic so much more pleasant in LA.

Watch movies on Kanopy.

Learn a language with Mango.

Go to a bilingual book festival. Los Angeles Los Libros Festival is happening on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 11am to 4pm at Central Library!

Attend a Maker Faire. Read about past Maker Faires at Central Library! The next one is Saturday December 7, 2019 at Central Library – and the call for makers is now open!

Attend a StoryTime.

Volunteer and become a STAR Reader!  Take a PLAY kit home to use with kids.

Make something at the Octavia Lab at Central Library. You know you’ve always wanted to use a 3D printer.

Make something at your local branch. Join a club, learn ukulele (heck, even check a ukulele out!). Crochet, knit, make zines!

Support LAPL by becoming a member the Library Foundation of Los Angeles. And then attend lots of library functions, readings and events! There is a whole season of ALOUD lecture series.

Meet your neighbors.

Learn how to code. Lynda.com is amazing for online learning classes. You can even learn how to finally use an Excel sheet.

Read newspapers and magazines with Pressreader. Get the NY Times.

Become a US citizen with the New American Initiative.  Seriously!

Get a High School diploma. You didn’t finish high school? No problem. Take classes to finish with Career Online High School.
