37 North Hollywood – Amelia M. Earhart Regional Branch
The Regional Branch Library, branch number 37/72, is a lovely library on the edge of the North Hollywood Recreation Center-Park and the NOHO Arts District. It is near the North Hollywood Metro Station.
We got to talk with the branch manager, Ann, who told us about their PLAY program! Thanks for talking with us, Ann!
Riley explored and found books and toys. She watched some other kids, but wanted to hang out with her Gramma G. We even got a group selfie in – a rarity since Riley usually shoos away my phone when I’m trying to take pictures nowadays: “No pictures!” I guess we’re in the ‘no’ stage of being 2 years old.
We got a giant bag full of books to take home, and even read some on the way home. . . I even got her to smile when I took out my phone to take pictures!
We got Red Again by Barbara Lehman. This was Riley’s favorite, and she looked at it over and over again. She said, “I read.” Though. . . it is a wordless book. . . but yes, she was ‘reading’ for sure. She definitely loves sitting with a book now all by herself.
We got Let the Children March by Monica Clark-Robinson and illustrated by Frank Morrison.
We found Our California by Pam Muñoz Ryan and illustrated by Rafael López.
We got Inside Outside by Lizi Boyd. Another great wordless book.
The Stars Will Still Shine by Cynthia Rylant and illustrated by Tiphanie Beeke.
A is for Activist by Innosanto Nagara (actually a book we’ve checked out before, but the last time we read this, it was the board book version.)
The Ant and the Grasshopper retold and illustrated by Amy Lowry Poole.
Subway by Anastasia Suen and illustrated by Karen Katz.
Franklin’s Flying Bookshop by Jen Campbell and illustrated by Katie Harnett.
Love, Splat by Rob Scotton.
Read It, Don’t Eat It! by Ian Schoenherr.
It’s almost Father’s Day, and we found Daddy’s Girl by Garrison Keillor and illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser.
The North Hollywood Branch has so many resources and fun events happening this summer – including Kids’ Summer Reading: Volcanoes in Story and Science at 5pm on Monday June 18, 2018 and Teen Tuesday Craft on June 19, 2018 at 3:30pm for Zine-Making! Just to name a few. . .
When you find yourself in North Hollywood, be sure to stop in at the Regional Branch # 37!
Spend some of Pride Month in your local library. You’ll be glad you did. And, you can sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge! And — since it’s World Cup time, check out some books from the countries in the tournament. (There’s always an ‘and’ with the library!)
